Collectors
Many private collectors of cultural objects are wholly committed to their collecting activities and perform valuable services on behalf of Germany as a nation of culture. This section contains information on the German Act on the Protection of Cultural Property (Kulturgutschutzgesetz, KGSG) that will be of particular relevance for collectors.
The Act on the Protection of Cultural Property recognizes that the interests pursued by collectors of cultural objects are just as diverse and varied as the collection landscape itself.

The Act on the Protection of Cultural Property therefore contains not only provisions that apply to all private collectors, but also provisions that apply predominantly to collectors based either in Germany or abroad.
All of the regulatory requirements enshrined in the Act that are relevant for collectors in their capacity as owners and lenders of cultural objects are outlined below.
